TDI adds auto data to transparency tool showing why policies are declined, canceled, or not renewed

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Plain English Summary

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has updated its website to show why personal auto insurance policies are declined, canceled, or not renewed. This new feature provides Texans with information about the number of insured cars and the reasons behind insurance companies' decisions. This change is part of a law passed in 2025 that requires insurers to report this data and explain their decisions in writing. Agents should inform their clients about this resource so they can better understand their insurance options.

A webpage from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) now gives Texans insight into why personal auto insurance policies in their area were declined, canceled, or not renewed. The page also shows the number of cars with insurance policies and the counts of nonrenewals, cancellations, and declinations reported by insurance companies. “Expanding this transparency tool is more than a data update; it’s a commitment to the Texans we serve,” said Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford. “By giving Texans clearer insight into why insurance decisions are made, we’re empowering them to navigate their coverage with confidence.” This enhanced transparency stems from House Bill 2067, passed in 2025, which requires insurance companies to report this information to TDI and provide written explanations when they decline, cancel, or don’t renew a home or auto insurance policy.
