Mortgage and Loan Insurance Programs Under the National Housing Act-Debenture Interest Rates

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Plain English Summary

The Federal Housing Administration has announced new interest rates for debentures related to insured loans and mortgages. Starting July 1, 2026, the interest rate for certain debentures will be 4.5%. For other debentures, the interest rate will be the higher of either the rate when the loan was committed for insurance or the rate when it was endorsed, with a minimum of 5% for loans committed or endorsed during the same six-month period. Agents should be aware of these changes as they may affect the loans they handle and advise clients accordingly.
