Trump Administration Announces $205 Million to Strengthen Emergency Care, Expand the Rural Health Workforce, and Modernize Healthcare Technology in Rural Wyoming
This federal investment supports emergency medical services, grows the rural health workforce, expands telehealth, and improves primary care access for Wyomingites
Today, the Trump Administration announced $205 million in Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) funding to strengthen healthcare delivery across Wyoming’s rural communities. This investment will improve access to emergency medical services, grow the rural healthcare workforce, and modernize healthcare technology statewide. Wyoming has committed its full $205 million in funding toward improving rural healthcare in communities across the state.
This transformational funding includes $91.8 million to improve access to emergency medical care, including labor and delivery, EMS, and trauma services, while supporting the long-term sustainability of critical access to hospitals and rural ambulance services. An additional $56.3 million will support education and training to grow the pipeline of nurses, EMTs, behavioral health workers, and physicians. Another $16.9 million will support technology that will help bring care closer to home, manage chronic disease, and connect patients to clinical specialists. Another $38.6 million will support the Make Wyoming Healthy Again initiative, expanding access to primary and behavioral healthcare and supporting healthy diet and exercise programs.
The Rural Health Transformation Program is expanding access to quality healthcare, regardless of a patient's ZIP code, while equipping first responders with the lifesaving resources they need when every second counts. This funding will make critical investments to strengthen rural healthcare, expand access to lifesaving services, and bring modern technology to communities across Wyoming.
“President Trump understands that every American deserves high-quality healthcare, no matter where they live,”
said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
“We are putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home. We are giving states the flexibility to build solutions around the people they serve, while demanding accountability for results. That is how we strengthen rural health, improve the lives of patients and families, and Make America Healthy Again.”
“President Trump made a historic commitment to rural America, and these investments are turning that commitment into better care for patients in communities across Wyoming,”
said Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.
“This is what rural health transformation should look like: federal investment that is putting patients first, driving lasting improvements and expanding healthcare for the hardworking Americans who call these communities home.”
Today’s investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act — passed by Republicans in Congress and unanimously opposed by Democrats — delivering a historic $50 billion investment to help states transform the way healthcare is delivered in America.
“Wyoming is a unique state with far flung communities a great distance apart. We need flexibility and sustainability that meets healthcare needs across the State. The Rural Health Transformation Project equips Wyoming to continue to find solutions for our rural and frontier communities,”
Gov. Mark Gordon said.
“I want to thank President Trump, Wyoming’s United States Senator John Barrasso and Administrator Oz for their leadership in bringing this program to fruition.”
“As a doctor who practiced medicine in Wyoming for 24 years, I know how important affordable, reliable, and quality local care is for our rural communities. That’s why I fought last year to create the Rural Health Transformation Program,”
said Sen. John Barrasso.
“Wyoming is using this year’s $205 million investment to strengthen and expand access to care in every corner of our state. We are supporting our rural hospitals, clinics, and emergency medicine services. We are investing in training and recruiting highly skilled doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. We are embracing new technologies and bringing quality care closer to home. This is just the beginning. More funding will follow over the next four years. I’m confident this historic investment in rural healthcare will improve care for families across Wyoming.”
“This investment of more than $200 million in Wyoming’s rural health systems is a major step toward keeping emergency, primary, and behavioral care close to home. I was proud to support the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, and I want to thank Senator Barrasso for championing the Rural Health Transformation Program, which delivers funding for rural hospitals, a stronger workforce, and modern, techno
